E. Jean Carroll está pedindo mais de US$ 10 milhões (US$ 49 milhões) em indenização
Donald Trump compareceu, nesta terça-feira (16), a um tribunal federal de Manhattan, em Nova York, para o segundo julgamento de difamação contra a escritora E. Jean Carroll por declarações que fez em 2019.
Nesta semana, o ex-presidente dividirá seu tempo entre a campanha eleitoral e o júri, com a temporada das eleições primárias para a disputa presidencial de 2024 em andamento.

As declarações que serão analisadas neste julgamento foram feitas em junho de 2019, quando Trump era presidente dos Estados Unidos.
O empresário disse à época, entre outras coisas: “Direi isso com grande respeito: número um, ela [Carroll] não faz meu tipo. Número dois, isso nunca aconteceu. Isso nunca aconteceu, ok?”.
Também foi decidido que o júri poderá considerar os comentários que Trump fez no CNN Town Hall após o veredicto de 2023 para decidir o valor.
O júri terá que considerar apenas quanto Trump deve pagar a Carroll em indenização, e não se o ataque aconteceu ou se Trump mentiu sobre o caso, pois o juiz decidiu que o veredicto do primeiro julgamento também será transferido para este caso.
Em maio do ano passado, um júri federal de Manhattan concluiu que Trump abusou sexualmente de Carroll e depois a difamou em declarações públicas em 2022, que ele fez depreciando a escritora e negando as acusações.
O júri concedeu a Carroll US$ 5 milhões (R$ 24 milhões) em indenização. Do valor, US$ 2,98 milhões (R$ 14,6 milhões) foram destinados à alegação de difamação.
Trump está recorrendo do veredicto.
Espera-se que Carroll testemunhe.
Seus advogados também indicaram que podem reproduzir partes do depoimento de Trump em 2022, assim como a amplamente divulgada gravação do Access Hollywood, na qual Trump pode ser ouvido fazendo comentários sexistas.
Especialistas também testemunharão, e os advogados de Trump também sugeriram que ele poderia depor.
O julgamento deve durar alguns dias.
Não está claro com que frequência Trump irá comparecer no julgamento, já que está focado nas eleições primárias do partido Republicano para concorrer nas eleições presidenciais de 2024.
Como réu civil, Trump não é obrigado a comparecer a este julgamento.
